The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura on Thursday suspended Arup Dhar, the Unakoti district president of its youth wing, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), following allegations of immoral conduct. A senior party leader confirmed the development.
The suspension comes two days after a married woman, who is the mother of two children, filed a complaint accusing Dhar of sexually exploiting her for nearly a year.

Party Orders Immediate Suspension
In an official order, BJP Tripura Pradesh General Secretary Amit Rakshit stated that the party took action after receiving allegations that Dhar had engaged in activities that could damage the party’s image.
According to the order, the party placed Dhar under suspension with immediate effect over alleged gross misconduct. The decision was taken under the direction of the state president of the party.
Rakshit also instructed Dhar to submit a written explanation regarding the allegations. The BJYM leader must submit his response to the BJP Pradesh Office in Agartala on or before March 18, 2026.
Party sources said the suspension will remain in effect until the leadership reviews Dhar’s explanation and takes a final decision.
Complaint Filed by Woman
Meanwhile, the complainant spoke to reporters after filing the complaint and shared details of the alleged incident.
She claimed that she had been in a relationship with Dhar for about a year. During this period, she alleged that he sexually exploited her.
The woman also stated that Dhar had arranged a rented room for her in Kumarghat. However, the house owner allegedly asked her to vacate the room within four days.
According to her statement, Dhar later blocked her phone number. She said this prevented her from contacting him or seeking clarification.
Woman Approaches Authorities
The complainant said she had no other option but to approach authorities after losing contact with Dhar. She eventually decided to file a formal complaint regarding the matter.
Police are expected to examine the complaint and verify the allegations as part of the investigation process.
Party Monitoring the Situation
BJP leaders said the party takes allegations of misconduct seriously and acts swiftly when complaints surface. The leadership has sought a written clarification from Dhar before taking further disciplinary action.
The suspension signals the party’s effort to maintain organisational discipline and protect its public image while the matter remains under review.
Further developments are expected after Dhar submits his explanation to the party leadership.
