Tripura witnessed a strong reaffirmation of the Central Government’s commitment to inclusive development as Dr. L. Murugan, Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, arrived in the state on Thursday. He emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ensuring that even the most remote border villages receive full access to basic services and infrastructure. During his visit, Dr. Murugan made it clear that the development of North Eastern India remains a top priority for the Centre and that border villages should not be treated as the last but the first in the line of development.
Speaking to the media and interacting with local officials and community members, Dr. Murugan stated that every Indian, regardless of geographical location, deserves access to clean drinking water, reliable electricity, well-maintained roads, quality education, and healthcare. He reiterated that the government’s intention is to make sure border villages are no longer viewed as neglected outposts, but rather as crucial zones of growth, security, and national pride. The Minister’s statements are in line with the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure and economic opportunities in the North East.
The visit to Tripura underlined the Centre’s intent to continue its focus on development beyond urban clusters, ensuring that the benefits of schemes like Jal Jeevan Mission, Saubhagya Yojana, and PM Gram Sadak Yojana reach even the last mile. Dr. Murugan said the Prime Minister has always believed that development should be all-inclusive, with no community or region left behind. The aim is to empower border villages so that residents feel not just connected to the rest of the country but also confident in their future prospects.
During his address, the Minister highlighted that the past decade has seen unprecedented growth in connectivity and public welfare initiatives in the North East. He said that under PM Modi’s leadership, roads have reached corners that were previously inaccessible, mobile connectivity has increased manifold, and power supply has become more stable in tribal and border areas. Dr. Murugan praised the local administration and citizens for supporting and implementing these initiatives with dedication.
He also pointed out that security in border areas improves significantly when development is prioritized. With better infrastructure and job opportunities, border villagers are less vulnerable to migration pressures and security threats. As the Union Government continues to invest in health, education, and digital infrastructure, the people of border villages are becoming active participants in the nation’s progress. He stressed that development and national security go hand in hand, and that a strong, prosperous border region is a strong asset for the country.
Dr. Murugan’s visit to Tripura included meetings with state officials, visits to development project sites, and interactions with community representatives. His agenda reflected the importance of direct engagement and assessment on the ground, ensuring that policy implementation aligns with the actual needs of the people. He assured that more central schemes would be tailored to address the specific needs of the North East’s diverse and strategically important border districts.
The Minister’s remarks come at a time when the government is stepping up efforts to bring digital services, employment programs, and health missions to underserved regions. He mentioned that the recently launched Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra has been instrumental in bringing government services directly to the doorstep of rural communities, especially in the North East. These outreach programs have not only improved access but also built trust between citizens and the state.
With this visit, the message from the Centre is clear: the development of border villages is not symbolic but a strategic and humane priority. Dr. Murugan’s emphasis on equitable development, robust infrastructure, and enhanced civic amenities signals a strong policy direction focused on empowering every Indian, no matter how remote their home. Tripura and its border villages now stand poised to witness accelerated growth and greater inclusion in the national developmental journey.
