The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), India’s domestic crime investigating agency, has stated that they are still awaiting a response from Facebook and Google regarding the case related to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, according to reports.

The CBI had reached out to the United States seeking assistance in retrieving deleted data from email and social media accounts belonging to the late Bollywood actor. Under the provisions of the mutual legal assistance treaty (MLAT) between India and the United States, the CBI requested Google and Facebook, headquartered in California, to share details of any deleted chats, emails, or posts associated with the actor.

The MLAT allows both countries to access information from each other for domestic investigations that may otherwise be challenging to obtain. A CBI officer was quoted as saying, “We are still waiting for a response from the US on this technical evidence, which may help us take the case to a logical conclusion. The case is pending finalization due to this.”

It has been reported that the central probe agency sought this information to ascertain if any incidents in the past were linked to June 14, 2020, the day Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai apartment.

Sushant Singh Rajput’s death in June 2020, where he was found hanging in his Mumbai apartment, shocked the nation. The case garnered significant media attention and sparked discussions about mental health and the workings of the entertainment industry.

The CBI’s efforts to obtain information from Facebook and Google are seen as crucial in their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. The deleted data from email and social media accounts could potentially provide valuable insights and shed light on any pertinent information that may help in reaching a conclusive outcome in the case.

As the CBI awaits a response from Facebook and Google, the investigation remains ongoing. The outcome of their request for technical evidence from the United States could play a significant role in the progress and ultimate resolution of this high-profile case.
