Union Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya Scindia on Thursday held a significant meeting with Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to discuss strategies for boosting investment in the North East Region. The meeting focused on the theme of ‘Investment Promotion’ and marked a crucial step towards enhancing economic development in the region. Both leaders agreed on the importance of collaborating closely to attract investments that can accelerate growth and create employment opportunities.

During the discussions, it was decided that a series of stakeholder consultations will be organized involving industry associations, potential investors, and government officials from the states across the North East. These consultations aim to gather valuable inputs, identify challenges, and explore opportunities in the investment landscape. The objective is to prepare a comprehensive strategic roadmap that will facilitate the promotion of investments, improve ease of doing business, and foster sustainable development in the region.

The meeting underscored the government’s commitment to realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transforming the North East into a vibrant economic hub. Jyotiraditya Scindia emphasized that the North East holds immense potential due to its strategic location, rich natural resources, and growing consumer markets. He highlighted that the Centre and state governments must work in tandem to unlock this potential by creating an investor-friendly environment, enhancing infrastructure, and ensuring policy support.

Chief Minister Manik Saha welcomed the initiative, expressing his readiness to collaborate with the Union Ministry to make the North East a preferred destination for domestic and foreign investors. He noted that Tripura, with its improved connectivity and ongoing development projects, is poised to become a gateway for trade and commerce in the region. The state government is focused on providing all necessary support to investors, including streamlined approvals and incentives.

Both leaders agreed that stakeholder consultations will play a critical role in understanding the unique needs of different sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, and IT. They emphasized the need for sector-specific policies that can address local challenges while leveraging regional strengths. The consultations will also help identify bottlenecks related to logistics, skill development, and access to finance, which will be addressed through targeted interventions.

The meeting further discussed the importance of infrastructure development as a key enabler for investment promotion. Improving road, rail, air, and digital connectivity in the North East is essential for integrating the region with national and international markets. The Centre and Tripura government reiterated their commitment to fast-track infrastructure projects and enhance power supply, industrial parks, and logistics hubs.

Additionally, the leaders explored the potential of public-private partnerships (PPP) to mobilize resources and expertise for large-scale projects. Encouraging private sector participation in sectors like renewable energy, tourism, and agro-processing can create new growth avenues and diversify the regional economy. Both Scindia and Saha emphasized the importance of sustainable and inclusive development to ensure long-term benefits for local communities.

The decision to hold extensive stakeholder consultations reflects a proactive approach to inclusive planning and decision-making. By involving multiple stakeholders, the government aims to build consensus and design policies that are pragmatic and investor-friendly. This collaborative model is expected to enhance transparency and foster a positive investment climate in the North East.

The meeting between Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha signals a renewed focus on harnessing the economic potential of the North East Region. As the consultation process unfolds, it is expected to bring together diverse voices and create a roadmap that aligns with both regional aspirations and national development goals. The initiative also underscores the importance of strategic partnerships between the Centre and states in achieving balanced and sustainable growth.

With this concerted effort, the North East is poised to attract greater investments, boost industrial development, and improve livelihoods. The collaboration between the Centre and Tripura sets a strong example for other states in the region to follow. As the roadmap takes shape, stakeholders across the North East will have an opportunity to contribute to shaping the future economic landscape of this strategically vital region.
