Assam Mizoram Expand CIJW School With Joint Effort
Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police from Kolasib (Mizoram) and Cachar (Assam) took part in the discussions. Officials from the Indian Army and CIJW School leadership were also present.
The plan focuses on building new training facilities, extending the barracks, and adding civil-police coordination programs. Both sides agreed to keep the process transparent and collaborative.
Colonel V.K. Sharma, Commandant of the CIJW School, said the effort would strengthen the region’s ability to counter threats. “It’s a step toward smarter, coordinated training,” he noted.
Turning Tensions Into Trust
In 2021, Assam and Mizoram faced a deadly border clash. Since then, officials have worked hard to rebuild trust. This new decision shows that both governments are now choosing dialogue and cooperation.
Officials from both states explored ways to include state police in joint training programs. They also reviewed forest zones and sensitive stretches of the border where coordination is most needed.
Kolasib Deputy Commissioner John Zothanzama said, “Training together builds trust. Expanding this school is a peace initiative as much as a security one.”
A Training Hub for Joint Security
The CIJW School already trains Indian and foreign security forces. The expansion will now allow it to include inter-state police and disaster response units.

An officer from Assam Police said, “We face similar challenges. Training together will improve coordination and prevent future misunderstandings.”

Villages near Vairengte will benefit from better roads, communication systems, and educational outreach. Local youth may also get training in forest safety and basic emergency response.
