Condemning the attack on its members in Tripura on November 30, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on Thursday said strict action should be taken against those responsible for the incident to ensure free and fair elections in the state.

The CPI(M) claimed that its members were attacked when they had gone to re-open the local committee office in Sipahijala district, which had been forcibly closed for the past four-and-a-half years.

He blamed the Bharatiya Janata workers for the incident. The BJP has rejected the allegations.
