Recognizing the adverse effects of prolonged unrest on young minds, DGP Singh emphasizes that sports can serve as a beacon of hope, fostering discipline, resilience, and a sense of community.

Sports: A Unifying Force

At the inauguration of the 4th Master Boys and Girls Boxing Championship and the 1st State Level Blue Cubs Baby League at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, DGP Singh highlighted Manipur’s illustrious sporting heritage. He noted that the state has produced renowned athletes like Mary Kom, Sarita Laishram, and Mirabai Chanu, who have brought international acclaim to India. Singh stressed that engaging in sports offers youth a constructive alternative to anti-social activities, promoting teamwork and a sense of purpose.

Manipur Police’s Commitment to Youth Development

Under DGP Singh’s leadership, the Manipur Police have intensified their efforts to support and nurture young talent. The department currently supports over 400 athletes, providing them with the necessary resources and training to excel in their respective fields. Initiatives like ‘Catch Them Young’ aim to identify and mentor potential sports stars from an early age, ensuring they receive guidance and opportunities to develop their skills.

Addressing Societal Challenges Through Sports

DGP Singh acknowledges the impact of societal unrest on the youth, particularly in a sensitive border state like Manipur. He believes that sports can act as a powerful unifying force, bridging divides and fostering a sense of community. By channeling the energy of the youth into sports, the aim is to divert them from paths that may lead to anti-social behavior, instead guiding them towards personal growth and societal contribution.

A Personal Commitment to Peace and Development

Since his appointment as DGP on June 1, 2023, Rajiv Singh has been at the forefront of initiatives aimed at restoring peace and normalcy in Manipur. He has actively engaged with various communities, emphasizing the importance of cooperation and understanding. Singh’s approach is holistic, focusing not only on law enforcement but also on community development and youth engagement.

Collaborative Efforts for a Brighter Future

The Manipur Police, under DGP Singh’s guidance, are collaborating with educational institutions, sports organizations, and community leaders to create platforms for young talents. These partnerships aim to provide training, resources, and exposure to budding athletes, ensuring they have the support needed to succeed. By investing in the youth, the police force hopes to build a foundation for long-term peace and prosperity in the region.

DGP Rajiv Singh’s emphasis on sports as a tool for youth empowerment reflects a strategic and compassionate approach to addressing the challenges faced by Manipur’s young population. By fostering discipline, unity, and resilience through sports, the Manipur Police are not only deterring youth from anti-social activities but also paving the way for a more harmonious and prosperous society. This commitment to youth development underscores the belief that today’s empowered youth are the cornerstone of tomorrow’s peaceful and thriving Manipur.
