The recently concluded Khelo India – East Zone Women’s Wushu League showcased an impressive display of talent and determination as 550 players from 9 states across India competed fiercely at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) STC Centre in Kokrajhar district. Organized collaboratively by the Sports Authority of India, the Indian Wushu Federation, and the Assam Wushu Association, the four-day event marked a significant step forward in promoting and recognizing women’s achievements in the sport.
On the concluding day of the competition, the ceremony saw the distribution of prizes and certificates to the deserving winners. Notable attendees, including BTR executive member Dr Nilut Swargiary, Assam Wushu Association Assistant Secretary Kumud Gogoi, and social worker Maneswar Daimary, added prestige to the event by personally handing over the accolades.
Assam Wushu Association Assistant Secretary Kumud Gogoi expressed satisfaction with the tournament’s outcome, stating that host Assam claimed the top spot in the medal tally. Manipur and West Bengal secured the second and third positions, respectively, showcasing the diverse talent and competitive spirit present in the participating states.
“A total of 550 players participated in the tournament. Assam is the topmost team in the tournament. They are followed by Manipur, and the third team is West Bengal. It was quite good. And in the future also, we will collaborate with our colleagues in BTR, and they have assured that in the future they would hold the tournament from the side of the BTR administration,” said Gogoi.
The success of the league goes beyond the immediate competition, as the best four players in each category, including Senior, Junior, Sub-Junior (Sanda), and Taolu, have earned the opportunity to compete in the upcoming National Women’s League. This not only highlights the individual accomplishments of these athletes but also serves as a platform for them to represent their states on a larger scale.
The collaborative efforts of the Sports Authority of India, the Indian Wushu Federation, and the Assam Wushu Association have played a pivotal role in fostering a competitive and encouraging environment for women in Wushu. The event’s impact extends beyond the competition arena, inspiring young talents and paving the way for a stronger, more inclusive future for women in sports across the nation.
