Khowai, 30 May 2025 — A flood alert has been issued for the Khowai River by the Water Resources Sub-Division, Khowai, as the river’s water level has crossed the expected flood mark and continues to rise gradually. As of 1:00 PM today, the water level was recorded at 22.70 meters, which is above the expected flood level of 22.50 meters.
Officials have outlined the various flood threshold levels to monitor the situation. The warning level is set at 23.10 meters, the critical level at 24.00 meters, the danger level at 24.50 meters, and the extreme danger level at 25.00 meters. Although the current level remains below the warning stage, authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and prepared for potential emergencies.
According to sources in the Water Resources Department, the river is experiencing a steady rise due to continuous rainfall in the upstream regions. While the situation has not yet escalated to critical levels, the department has initiated close monitoring and coordination with the district administration to ensure timely response in case of further rise in the water level.
The local administration has advised people living in low-lying areas near the riverbanks to be alert and to avoid unnecessary movement near the river. Evacuation plans have been reviewed and rescue teams are on standby to respond swiftly should the water level reach higher thresholds.
Speaking to the media, an official from the WR Sub-Division said, “We are in constant touch with the meteorological department and upstream water management authorities. At this point, the rise in water level is gradual, but we are not taking any chances. All necessary precautions are being taken.”
Residents have also been advised to stay updated through official announcements and not to pay attention to rumors or unverified information. The district administration is expected to issue further updates depending on the river’s behavior over the next 24 to 48 hours.
As the monsoon season sets in, authorities have emphasized the importance of community preparedness and cooperation. More rainfall is expected in the coming days, and the situation remains fluid. People are requested to stay connected with local authorities and follow all safety instructions issued.
