Forest Minister and Asharambari MLA Animesh Debbarma has strongly dismissed claims that any supporter of Tipra Motha was involved in the attack on BJP supporters during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme held in the Taksapara area on Sunday.
Addressing the media, Minister Debbarma said, “No one from Tipra Motha was involved in the Asharambari incident. This could be a conspiracy by others to defame our party.” He further informed that he had already communicated the matter to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha through his Confidential Assistant, Kamal Mallik.
Debbarma condemned the attack unequivocally, stating, “Whoever has done this is wrong. Violence has no place in democracy.” He assured that he would personally visit the affected area tomorrow to assess the situation on the ground and meet with the locals.
“I will take stock of the situation and ensure that justice is done. Those responsible for the attack must be identified, and strict legal action should follow,” Debbarma asserted, underlining his commitment to a fair and transparent investigation.
The Forest Minister also emphasized that Tipra Motha is a party that believes in democratic values and peaceful co-existence. “Tipra Motha supporters never attack members of allied parties. We believe in democratic principles. This incident is completely unacceptable and does not reflect the ideology of our party,” he clarified.
According to preliminary reports, the attack occurred during a local gathering organized to listen to the Prime Minister’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address. Several BJP workers were allegedly injured in the violence, triggering political tensions in the Asharambari constituency. However, there is yet no official confirmation on the number of injured individuals or the extent of the damage caused.
The Forest Minister’s prompt response and strong statements have brought some level of reassurance to the local residents, who were shocked by the sudden escalation of violence in what was supposed to be a peaceful civic engagement.
Meanwhile, security has been tightened in the area, and local police have been directed to maintain law and order and begin an impartial investigation to identify the culprits. Political analysts believe that the swift intervention of Minister Debbarma may help defuse the situation before it spirals into a larger political clash.
With Tripura’s tribal and non-tribal communities working to maintain harmony amid evolving political alliances, any incident of violence poses a threat to the fragile peace in the region. Minister Debbarma’s message underscores the importance of unity, dialogue, and upholding the spirit of democracy.
As the investigation proceeds, both the state government and Tipra Motha leadership are expected to monitor the developments closely to prevent any further disturbances. Community leaders and civil society organizations have also urged all political parties to exercise restraint and let the law take its course.
