The employment situation inside the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) has snowballed into a fresh political storm, with accusations of corruption, nepotism, and betrayal of tribal youth dominating the Assembly. What was expected to be a routine response on job creation has now triggered an all-out war of words between the BJP and Tipra Motha.

According to official figures presented by ADC Executive Member (Industries) Sanjit Reang, the council managed to provide 391 jobs between May 2021 and July 31, 2025. The posts, he explained, were largely tied to school construction, housing schemes, electrification, and other service-related sectors.

But instead of appreciation, the revelation fueled outrage. BJP MLAs tore into the numbers, branding them as a mockery of promises made to the tribal community. “Is this what Tipra Motha calls employment? A few hundred jobs in four years while thousands of our youths are forced to leave their villages, forced to leave the state, and work as daily wage laborers in big cities? This is betrayal,” alleged one BJP legislator.

They claimed the ground reality paints a much darker picture: young men and women from the hills migrating to other states, taking up menial jobs in shops, factories, and construction sites, while many in Agartala itself are reduced to backbreaking labor. “This is not development. This is the collapse of governance in the ADC,” BJP leaders thundered in the House.

The controversy deepened further as the BJP accused Tipra Motha’s leadership of running the council like a private fiefdom, where jobs are allegedly distributed not on merit but on favoritism and political loyalty. Allegations of financial mismanagement, recruitment scams, and corruption were hurled at the ADC leadership, with BJP MLAs insisting that deserving candidates have been systematically sidelined.

“Corruption, nepotism, and favoritism are the three pillars of this ADC administration,” charged BJP members, claiming that Tipra Motha has completely failed the very people it promised to uplift.

Caught in the crossfire, TTAADC Chief Executive Member Purna Chandra Jamatia defended the council, asserting that they remain committed to creating more employment opportunities for tribal youths. He argued that multiple projects are in the pipeline and the results will be visible in the coming years. But his assurances did little to calm the storm, as BJP leaders continued to slam the administration for what they described as years of false promises and empty rhetoric.

For Tipra Motha, the controversy comes at a politically sensitive time, with unemployment and migration already fueling resentment in tribal areas. For the BJP, the issue has provided fresh ammunition to question the credibility of the council and portray Tipra Motha as corrupt and incompetent.

The employment row has now become the newest flashpoint in Tripura politics, with the fate of thousands of tribal youths caught in the middle of this political tug-of-war. As both parties double down on their claims, the debate has only heightened public anger, turning jobs and corruption into a potentially explosive issue ahead of future electoral battles.
