A case of alleged gang rape of a minor tribal girl returning home from a cultural program has come to light in Khowai district of Tripura. The police gave this information on Wednesday. Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Prasoon Tripura told reporters that one person has been arrested in connection with the said incident. The incident comes days after another teenager was allegedly gang-raped in Unakoti district.
According to the complaint lodged with the police by a tribal girl in Khowai, “She was returning home from a Kali Puja program with friends when three drunk men caught her on the way and took her hostage.” Prasoon quoted the FIR as saying, “The girl told that the accused snatched the phones of all the people and let them go, but kept her there. Thereafter, the men took turns sexually harassing her.”
“One of the three accused has been arrested. The other two will be apprehended soon.” He said that the girl has been medically examined and her report is awaited.
