The Gujarat Pradesh Youth Congress has suspended 49 office-bearers for failing to attend the INDIA bloc’s rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1. The disciplinary action follows instructions from the national leadership, which had directed all office-bearers to participate in the major Opposition gathering.

The suspended leaders include 18 general secretaries, seven state secretaries and 24 presidents of district and city units. The suspension orders took immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice.

According to party sources, the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) took the action after reviewing attendance at the Delhi event. The leadership considered the absence of the Gujarat office-bearers a violation of organisational instructions.

The Gujarat Pradesh Youth Congress issued the suspension letter on November 3. State Youth Congress president Pravinsinh Vanol and IYC national secretary Manpreet Singh Mani signed the order.

District and City Presidents Among Those Suspended

The disciplinary action affects several district and city-level leaders across Gujarat. Those facing suspension include district presidents from Ahmedabad, Amreli, Anand, Aravalli, Gandhinagar, Junagadh, Mehsana, Patan and Panchmahal.

The action also covers city and district presidents from Rajkot and Vadodara, among other organisational units.

The suspension list includes leaders who hold important responsibilities within the state Youth Congress structure. Their removal could affect the functioning of several district and city units until the leadership reviews their cases.

The party has not announced a permanent expulsion of these leaders. Instead, the current suspension will continue until the national leadership decides otherwise.

Digital Attendance System Helped Track Participation

The Indian Youth Congress reportedly used an in-house mobile application to monitor attendance at the Delhi rally.

According to a Gujarat Congress leader, the national leadership had instructed all national, state and district-level office-bearers to attend the rally and the march preceding it.

The organisation developed a digital system to track participation. The application helped officials check which members attended the programme.

During the subsequent review, the leadership found that 49 Gujarat office-bearers had remained absent despite receiving clear instructions.

Party sources said the digital attendance records played an important role in identifying those who missed the event. The leadership then initiated disciplinary proceedings against the concerned members.

The action reflects the Youth Congress leadership’s effort to strengthen organisational discipline and ensure greater accountability among its office-bearers.

INDIA Bloc Rally Focused on Electoral Roll Concerns

The INDIA bloc organised the November 1 rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan under the banner of ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’.

The Opposition parties used the gathering to raise concerns over alleged irregularities in electoral rolls and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. They also demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Congress leaders alleged that irregularities in the electoral process could undermine democratic institutions. However, these remain political allegations, which the Election Commission and the ruling party have disputed.

The rally featured several prominent Opposition leaders. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav attended the gathering.

Other INDIA bloc leaders also joined the demonstration and addressed supporters.

Before the main programme, Opposition leaders and party workers participated in a march towards Ramlila Maidan. The event aimed to demonstrate unity among Opposition parties and mobilise public support over electoral concerns.

Nationwide Disciplinary Action Across States

The Gujarat suspensions form part of a wider disciplinary drive by the Indian Youth Congress. The national leadership has taken action against office-bearers in several states for missing the Delhi rally.

According to reports, the organisation suspended 215 office-bearers across seven states and the Uttar Pradesh Central unit.

Madhya Pradesh recorded the highest number of suspensions, with 60 office-bearers facing action. Gujarat followed with 49 suspensions. The other affected units include Jharkhand with 32, West Bengal with 26, Telangana with 14, Himachal Pradesh with 13, Uttar Pradesh Central with 11 and Haryana with 10.

The figures highlight the scale of the disciplinary exercise. The national leadership appears determined to ensure that state and district units follow instructions during major organisational and political programmes.

The leadership has also indicated that suspended office-bearers must demonstrate active participation in organisational activities before seeking reinstatement.

Leadership Seeks Greater Organisational Discipline

The mass suspensions have brought attention to internal discipline within the Congress youth wing. The national leadership expects office-bearers to participate in important programmes and follow organisational directions.

For Gujarat, the action affects several district and city units that play an important role in grassroots mobilisation.

The suspended leaders may have an opportunity to explain their absence. According to reports, the organisation plans to seek explanations before considering possible reinstatement.

Meanwhile, the wider disciplinary action signals a stricter approach towards organisational responsibilities within the Indian Youth Congress.

The November 1 rally was an important political mobilisation for the INDIA bloc. However, the subsequent suspensions have shifted attention towards the Congress youth wing’s internal accountability.

As the leadership reviews the cases, the focus will remain on restoring organisational discipline and ensuring stronger participation in future political programmes.
