In a significant move to elevate healthcare services in Tripura, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, who also serves as the Health Minister, has unveiled a major expansion plan for AGMC & GBP Pant Hospital. This strategic decision, under the Chief Minister’s leadership, aims to enhance medical facilities and streamline treatment for the state’s residents.

Substantial Bed Capacity Increase

With a profound understanding of the escalating healthcare demands, the State Government, led by Dr. Saha, has greenlit a substantial increase in bed capacity at AGMC & GBP Hospital. The current count of 727 beds will witness a remarkable augmentation to 1,413 beds, a move designed to accommodate the growing influx of patients and ensure the delivery of high-quality medical care.

Chief Minister’s Announcement

Expressing his satisfaction with this development, Dr. Saha shared the news on Facebook, stating, “I am happy to announce that the state government has decided to increase the number of beds at the AGMC & GBP Hospital from 727 to 1,413, considering the increasing patient load. This will also include 140 beds for 07 super-specialty departments of the hospital. The state government is committed to transforming the health infrastructure of the state.”

Department-wise Bed Expansion

This transformative initiative encompasses an expansive plan for the Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital. The Medicine Department will witness an increase from 120 to 280 beds, while General Surgery sees growth from 120 to 180 beds. The Pediatric Department expanded from 60 to 80 beds, and Obstetrics and Gynecology grow from 114 to 132 beds.

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and post-operative care beds are raised from 58 to 112, addressing critical care needs.

Super-specialty Department Allocations

In a noteworthy move, 20 beds are allocated for each of the seven super-specialty departments, including Urology, Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS), Nephrology, and Cardiology. This totals 140 beds, fortifying specialized medical services.

The Chief Minister emphasizes that this decision underscores the state government’s unwavering commitment to healthcare infrastructure development. Aligned with the overarching goal set by the Prime Minister, this expansion represents a crucial step toward a robust and efficient healthcare system in Tripura.
