The Aadhaar card and the PAN card are two of the most important identification documents in India. While the Aadhaar card is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the PAN card is issued by the Income Tax Department. Linking Aadhaar with PAN has become mandatory for filing income tax returns and for availing several other financial services. Here’s how you can check if your Aadhaar is linked to your PAN card.
Step 1: Visit the Income Tax e-Filing website Visit the official website of the Income Tax Department’s e-filing portal at https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/home. On the home page, click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ option under the ‘Quick Links’ section.
Step 2: Enter Details Enter your PAN card number, Aadhaar number, and name as per the Aadhaar card. You also need to solve the captcha code and click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ button.
Step 3: Verify The website will verify your details, and if your Aadhaar is already linked with your PAN, you will see a message saying ‘Your Aadhaar is already linked with your PAN’. If your Aadhaar is not linked with your PAN, you will see a message asking you to link your Aadhaar with your PAN.
Step 4: Link your Aadhaar with your PAN If your Aadhaar is not linked with your PAN, you can link it by filling up the form on the website. Enter your name, date of birth, and gender as per the PAN card. After entering the details, click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ button.
Step 5: Confirmation After submitting the form, you will receive a message on your registered mobile number and email ID confirming that your Aadhaar has been linked with your PAN.
It is important to note that linking Aadhaar with PAN is mandatory for filing income tax returns. Failure to link the two cards can result in a penalty of up to Rs. 1,000.
Checking if your Aadhaar is linked with your PAN is a simple process that can be completed online. Follow the steps mentioned above to ensure that your Aadhaar and PAN are linked, and avoid any penalties for non-compliance.
