Independent MLA from Assam Akhil Gogoi was suspended from the Assembly on Wednesday. Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary suspended for the period of Question Hour for ‘obstructing proceedings’. Independent MLA Gogoi was thrown out of the House by two marshals.

Gogoi, the MLA from Sivasagar, wanted to ask a supplementary question related to the education department, which was rejected by the Speaker. The MLA alleged that his voice was being suppressed. On which Daimary ordered his suspension for the rest of the Question Hour for creating ruckus or obstructing the proceedings.

Speaker Daimary insisted that the rules of ‘movement’ (protest) could not be allowed inside the House. It has its own rules.

Assembly was adjourned amid heavy uproar

At the same time, Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary was adjourned for some time on Monday amid heavy uproar after three adjournment motions moved by opposition members were rejected.

Congress party and independent MLA Akhil Gogoi moved two resolutions on the first day of the session, seeking a discussion on the state government’s decision to teach maths and science in English from Class 3 in local secondary schools.

AIUDF was raising questions regarding discussion in the assembly

The AIUDF in its proposal wanted to discuss the series of eviction drives carried out across the state and the status of dispossessed families. An adjournment motion is an extraordinary procedure which, if adopted, sets aside the ordinary business of the House to discuss a certain matter of immediate public importance.
