Agartala, July 3, 2025 — Kishor Barman, BJP MLA from Nalchar in Sepahijala district, has officially taken oath as a Cabinet Minister in the Tripura government. The oath-taking ceremony was held at Raj Bhavan in the presence of Governor N. Indrasena Reddy.

At 44, Barman becomes the latest face in Chief Minister Manik Saha’s Council of Ministers, bringing the total strength of the Cabinet to 12. The BJP now holds nine ministerial positions, while Tipra Motha Party (TMP) has two, and the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) has one.

Chief Minister Saha and senior BJP ministers attended the ceremony, though no leaders from coalition partners TMP or IPFT were present. The event also saw no participation from the opposition Congress or CPI(M).

Welcoming Barman into the Cabinet, CM Saha said, “We are committed to building ‘Ek Tripura, Shrestha Tripura.’ Kishor Barman’s inclusion will add further strength to this vision. His dedication and experience will benefit the people of the state.”

When asked about the portfolio Barman would handle, Saha said the decision would be announced in due course. On the internal discussion regarding the BJP’s state president post, the Chief Minister assured that the party would resolve the matter through its established processes.

Speaking to reporters after being sworn in, Barman expressed gratitude to the party’s central and state leadership. “I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP general secretary B.L. Santosh, and Chief Minister Manik Saha for trusting me with this responsibility,” he said.

Barman emphasized his commitment to party discipline and public service. “I have always followed the party’s direction, whether in Tripura or outside. I will continue to serve with the same dedication,” he added.

Kishor Barman played a crucial role in expanding BJP’s presence in West Bengal before returning to Tripura in 2021. Soon after his return, he was appointed the state general secretary of the BJP. He contested the 2023 Assembly elections from Nalchar and secured a decisive victory, strengthening BJP’s base in the region.

Political observers see Barman’s induction as a strategic move aimed at reinforcing the BJP’s organizational structure ahead of upcoming civic and local body polls. His experience both within and outside Tripura is likely to play a key role in shaping government outreach and development initiatives in Sepahijala and surrounding areas.

With this new addition to the Cabinet, the Tripura government appears poised to continue its focus on administrative stability and inclusive governance as it moves forward under the leadership of Manik Saha.
