Due to heavy rains in Sikkim, landslides occurred at many places in the state in the early hours of Sunday. Due to which the road connectivity between Gangtok and West Bengal was snapped. According to a senior official, huge boulders have accumulated on National Highway 10 at Mile 19 and Mile 20 between Singtam and Rangpo in East Sikkim.
He said the traffic on the route from Singtam to Gangtok came to a standstill due to debris coming in near 32 miles on the route due to landslides. It may take a full day to clear the debris and re-open the road for traffic, a departmental official said. Commuters going to Siliguri have been advised to use the roads via Central Pendam or Pakyong to reach the West Bengal border.
