Mumbai, May 19, 2025 — Maddock Films has officially confirmed the theatrical release of its upcoming movie Bhool Chuk Maaf on May 23, 2025. The announcement comes amid a legal dispute with PVR Inox, India’s leading multiplex chain, over the film’s release strategy.
PVR Inox filed a legal case against Maddock Films for allegedly violating the traditional 8-week theatrical window. This rule requires a minimum of eight weeks between a film’s theatrical release and its availability on any OTT platform. According to PVR Inox, Maddock’s release strategy breached this timeline, prompting legal action.
Maddock Films, however, has remained one of the few production houses that continues to back theatrical releases. Over the past two years, the studio has contributed significantly to the box office with hits like Stree 2, Chhaava, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, and Munjya, generating over ₹2,500 crore in revenue. The studio also supported theatres during the post-pandemic phase by releasing Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, which performed well at the box office.
The release of Bhool Chuk Maaf was postponed to May 23 as part of a strategic decision by Maddock Films. The move aims to prioritise the film’s release timing and address the concerns raised in the ongoing legal matter.
PVR Inox maintains that upholding the 8-week rule is essential to protect theatre revenues. The company believes that deviation from this practice undermines the value of theatrical exclusivity.
Despite the conflict, Maddock Films has chosen to proceed with the release on the newly announced date, reaffirming its commitment to theatrical cinema while addressing the legal challenge through appropriate channels.
