Tripura Police, in collaboration with the Tripura State Rifles, apprehended three militants, including a self-styled Major, associated with the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT). The operation unfolded in the Khasnam Para Bru settlement camp located in the North District, adjacent to the borders of Assam and Mizoram.

The North District Superintendent of Police, Bhanupada Chakraborty, disclosed that the operation was executed based on credible intelligence received. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a joint team conducted a raid in the early hours of Saturday, resulting in the arrest of two active NLFT cadres—Ganaram Rang, alias Baileng (self-styled Major), and Rai Bahadur Reang. Both individuals, residents of Anadabazaar in the North District, had reportedly joined NLFT(PD) in July 2023.

Additionally, Rai Taingha Reang was apprehended from Khasnam Para for allegedly assisting NLFT members in finding refuge. The police confiscated a Chinese pistol, live ammunition, NLFT notices, subscription notices, Rs. 3,360 in Indian currency, and 6795 Taka in Bangladeshi currency during the operation.

Intelligence sources indicate that the arrested militants had crossed over from the NLFT (Parimal Debbarma) hideout at Jupui in Bangladesh. The successful operation underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb insurgent activities and maintain security in the region.

The authorities are expected to conduct thorough investigations to extract information from the arrested individuals, potentially unraveling more details about the activities and network of the NLFT in the region.
