The Indian Red Cross Society, Margherita Sub-District Branch, issued a strong statement on November 21. Rejecting all allegations of illegal encroachment and the demolition of a shop attached to its property. The organisation described the accusations as “baseless, malicious, and defamatory.” Stressing that these claims were designed to damage the reputation of the humanitarian institution. The Red Cross clarified that it has been executing its duties responsibly and transparently for years in Margherita. Officials added that any attempt to malign the organisation would be dealt with through proper legal channels.

FIR Filed Against Individuals for ‘False Propaganda’

Following the rapid spread of the accusations, the Red Cross filed an FIR against three individuals allegedly involved in circulating the claims. According to officials, these individuals intentionally publicised misleading narratives aimed at provoking public confusion and undermining trust in the organisation. The Red Cross stated that such actions not only harm its image but also obstruct its service-oriented agenda. The FIR was filed to ensure accountability and prevent similar misinformation campaigns in the future. The organisation reiterated that its premises and property records are fully legal and remain unchanged.

Red Cross Claims Video Footage Was Manipulated

In its statement, the Margherita Red Cross highlighted concerns over video footage and photos circulating online that allegedly depicted demolition activities. Officials maintained that the visuals were selectively edited to create a false impression of wrongdoing. They emphasised that no illegal demolition occurred. And that the property in question has long belonged to the organisation. The Red Cross urged the public not to fall prey to manipulated content. And instead verify facts before believing or sharing such material. This, they said, was crucial to maintaining truth and preventing unnecessary tension in the community.

Local Leaders Express Support for the Red Cross

Several members of the community, including local leaders and Red Cross volunteers, stepped forward in support of the organisation. They noted that the Margherita Red Cross has consistently contributed to relief work, healthcare initiatives, and community support programmes across the sub-division. Many highlighted that the allegations seemed politically motivated or driven by personal disputes rather than grounded in reality. Volunteers expressed concern that such rumours could hinder ongoing humanitarian activities. Moreover, they urged residents to stand with the organisation and avoid spreading unfounded claims that damage public trust.

Organisation Calls for Public Cooperation

The Red Cross appealed to the public to cooperate with ongoing legal processes and allow authorities to conduct their inquiry without interference. The organisation stressed that targeting a humanitarian body through misleading accusations could demoralise volunteers and impact services offered to vulnerable groups. By filing the FIR, the Red Cross aims to send a clear message that misinformation will not be tolerated. Officials reaffirmed their commitment to serving the people of Margherita and maintaining transparency in all operations. They promised to continue documenting and sharing factual updates as the case progresses.

A Call for Responsible Information Sharing

The incident has revived discussions about the importance of responsible information sharing, especially on social media platforms where unverified narratives spread quickly. Community members and civic groups have reminded the public to rely on credible information before reacting to sensitive issues. The Red Cross stressed that it remains committed to protecting its reputation while continuing its service-driven mission. As investigations move forward, residents are encouraged to stay informed through official statements rather than online speculation. The organisation hopes that clarity will soon dispel all misinformation surrounding the case.
