Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport has emerged as the top-ranking airport in the Northeast in the latest Customer Satisfaction Survey (CSS) conducted by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The news was shared during the Airport Advisory Committee (AAC) meeting held on Saturday under the chairmanship of West Tripura MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.

According to MBB Airport Director K.C. Meena, the airport secured an impressive 4.77 out of 5 in the 2025 Round 1 CSS, placing 15th among 62 airports across India, and clinching the top position in the Northeast region. The achievement highlights growing passenger satisfaction with services and facilities at the Agartala-based airport.

The AAC meeting brought together key stakeholders, including West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, Municipal Commissioner D.K. Chama, Superintendent of Police Dr. Kiran Kumar, and former MLA Krishna Dhan Das. Representatives from the aviation and tourism sectors, including Ratan Debnath (Longtharai Industries), Sanjib Acharjee (Niljyoti Travels), and Prikshit Dey (Hindustan Tour and Travel), also participated.

Among major updates discussed was the upcoming launch of the Inline Baggage Handling System (ILHBS), expected to be operational by March 2025. This system will improve baggage screening efficiency and ease passenger flow. In another traveler-friendly initiative, the airport is also set to introduce a Child Care Room in collaboration with Himalaya, providing a clean and secure space for mothers and children.

The committee also reviewed the status of the Kailashahar Airport development project in Unakoti district, which is expected to significantly boost regional connectivity and economic prospects in North Tripura.

Commending the efforts of the AAI and MBB Airport staff, the committee emphasized the importance of continued collaboration among all stakeholders to further enhance the aviation ecosystem in Tripura.
