No Evidence Found Against Men Earlier Arrested for Tampering

Police have dropped charges against two individuals who were earlier arrested for allegedly tampering with evidence in the murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in Meghalaya. Officials confirmed on Tuesday that a detailed investigation found no involvement of the two men.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said Balbir Ahirbar and Lokendra Singh Tomar have been excluded from the second chargesheet filed in the case. Both men were initially detained on suspicion of destroying evidence and were later released on bail.

Names Excluded from Second Chargesheet

According to SP Syiem, the final stage of the investigation clearly established that the two accused had no role in the alleged offence. As a result, their names were dropped from the chargesheet submitted to the court.

“The final investigation established that they had no role in the case, and their names have been dropped from the chargesheet,” Syiem told PTI.

Earlier, police had named three suspects in connection with alleged attempts to tamper with evidence. However, after further verification and examination of facts, only one individual has been included in the fresh chargesheet. The court is expected to take up the matter in the coming days.

Prime Accused Remains in Judicial Custody

Meanwhile, the prime accused in the case, Sonam Raghuvanshi, the wife of the deceased businessman, continues to remain in judicial custody. Her recent bail plea was rejected by the court, police officials confirmed.

Investigators stated that the probe against the main accused is ongoing. Further evidence is being examined to establish the sequence of events surrounding the crime.

Murder During Honeymoon in Meghalaya

Raja Raghuvanshi, a businessman from Madhya Pradesh, was murdered while on his honeymoon trip to Meghalaya in May 2025. His disappearance had triggered widespread concern and led to an extensive search operation by the police and rescue teams.

After several days of search, Raghuvanshi’s decomposed body was recovered on June 2 from a deep gorge near Wei Sawdong Falls in the Sohra area of East Khasi Hills district. The recovery of the body marked a major breakthrough in the investigation.

Alleged Attempts to Destroy Evidence

Police investigations indicated that there were attempts to destroy evidence and conceal the body after the murder. These findings led to the initial arrests on charges related to evidence tampering.

However, officials clarified that continued investigation and verification of evidence helped separate those falsely suspected from those allegedly involved. Police reiterated that the decision to drop charges was taken strictly on the basis of facts and available evidence.

Investigation Continues

Although charges have been dropped against two individuals, police said the case remains under active investigation. Authorities are continuing to gather evidence and strengthen the prosecution against the remaining accused.

Officials stressed that the investigation is being carried out in a fair and transparent manner. They also assured that anyone found responsible for the crime or related offences would face strict legal action.

The high-profile case has drawn national attention, highlighting the need for thorough investigations and due process. Police said further developments will be shared as the case progresses through the legal system.
