Rajdhani Express to Connect Mizoram with Delhi
The new Mizoram Rajdhani Express will run on the freshly completed Bairabi–Sairang railway line. Until now, Mizoram lacked direct train service to the national capital. This train will bridge that gap, offering faster and more comfortable travel to and from Delhi.
Government officials have already completed major portions of the railway infrastructure. According to the Chief Minister, only final safety checks and logistical arrangements remain. Once these are done, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the line virtually, while Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw may attend the Sairang ceremony in person.
Infrastructure Project Overcomes Challenges
The 51-kilometre-long Bairabi–Sairang railway stretch posed many engineering challenges. Steep hills, fragile soil, and monsoon rains created obstacles throughout construction. However, railway engineers completed the project using advanced technology and strategic planning.
The route includes several tunnels, steel bridges, and modern stations. These features will support both passenger and cargo transport, improving the region’s economy. Unlike road transport, which often suffers from landslides, this railway offers a more reliable alternative.
CM Lalduhoma Shares the Vision
Chief Minister Lalduhoma described the Mizoram Rajdhani Express as a “lifeline” for the state. During a press briefing, he said, “This train is not just a service—it is a long-awaited connection between Mizoram and the heart of the nation. It will drive development, boost trade, and improve travel for students, workers, and patients.”
He added that the state government worked closely with the Indian Railways to make this project a reality. Local officials ensured land acquisition and public cooperation throughout the project.
Economic Growth and Tourism Potential
This train service will open many doors for Mizoram. Better rail connectivity means easier movement of goods and people. Local farmers and entrepreneurs will now have quicker access to northern markets. Moreover, reduced travel costs will allow more people to explore business and education opportunities outside the state.
Tourism will also benefit from the Mizoram Rajdhani Express. Visitors from Delhi and other regions can now travel directly to Mizoram’s scenic hills, lakes, and heritage sites. This move is expected to create jobs in hotels, transportation, and tour services.
Connecting Communities and Remote Areas
The new railway line doesn’t just link cities; it connects people and cultures. Villages located near the new stations will gain access to better services, including healthcare and education. Students will be able to travel to Aizawl and beyond more affordably and quickly.
In emergencies, the Rajdhani Express will serve as a fast mode of transport for patients and disaster response teams. For the people of Mizoram, this service brings convenience, safety, and a greater sense of inclusion.
A Part of the Act East Vision
This railway expansion forms part of India’s broader “Act East” policy. The Central Government has prioritized connectivity projects in the Northeast to integrate the region more fully with the rest of the country. The Bairabi–Sairang rail project received consistent funding and monitoring under this initiative.
Union ministers have repeatedly highlighted the importance of railways in strengthening national unity. This project demonstrates how infrastructure development can also promote social and economic inclusion.

Final Preparations Underway
With construction complete, the Indian Railways is now conducting safety inspections and trial runs. Officials expect everything to be in place within a few weeks. Once the Mizoram Rajdhani Express becomes operational, booking portals will open and schedules will be released.
Local authorities are also preparing for the inauguration ceremony. They plan to host cultural performances and traditional welcome events during the train’s first journey from Sairang.
The Mizoram Rajdhani Express is more than a train; it symbolizes progress, hope, and national integration. By launching this service, the government is fulfilling a long-standing demand of the Mizo people.
As the tracks connect Sairang to Delhi, Mizoram will take a leap forward in development, connectivity, and opportunity. With Prime Minister Modi set to flag off the train, the countdown to this transformative journey has truly begun.
