NEC projects worth Rs 45.48 crore reached completion across the Northeast in September, with the North Eastern Council closing 14 infrastructure works during the month. The completed works included a cultural complex and school infrastructure in Meghalaya.

The North Eastern Council also released Rs 42.63 crore for development initiatives across the region in September. Of this amount, Rs 35.21 crore went to the eight northeastern states, while Rs 7.42 crore was released to regional institutions and agencies.

NEC projects support infrastructure across Northeast

The latest project completions add to the NEC’s wider development work across the eight northeastern states. The council supports projects in areas such as infrastructure, education, tourism, culture, livelihoods and technology.

Among the projects completed in September, Meghalaya accounted for works that included school buildings at Mawthadraishan in West Khasi Hills. Another completed project involved the Cultural Complex of Seng Khasi Ri Raid Laban at Lum Shat Sngi Kenches Trace in Shillong.

Officials said a cultural complex valued at Rs 9.28 crore and school buildings worth Rs 4.75 crore were among the completed works. These projects reflect the range of NEC interventions, which extend beyond large infrastructure to education and cultural facilities.

NEC projects receive fresh funding

Alongside the completed works, the council released fresh funds for ongoing and new development initiatives. Nagaland received the highest state allocation during September, with Rs 11.92 crore released for several activities.

The allocation included support for cluster-based coffee value-chain development. It also covered a cultural activity complex for the Chakhesang tribe at Pfutseromi village.

Meanwhile, Mizoram received Rs 6.29 crore. The funding covered an auditorium at Bethel Veng in Champhai, cultural tourism infrastructure at Vangchhia, Mizo ginger cultivation and IT-based mineral mapping.

Assam received Rs 4.42 crore for student hostels at Bineswar Brahma Engineering College in Kokrajhar and initiatives involving the Singpho community in Tinsukia. Sikkim received Rs 4.17 crore for town CCTV surveillance and a multi-purpose hall at Government Degree College, Rhenock.

NEC projects span education and tourism

Arunachal Pradesh received Rs 3.40 crore during September. The allocation covered a nursing hostel at District Hospital in Yingkiong, the Acheso tourism complex in Dibang Valley and the Ziro Signature View Point.

Tripura and Manipur also received instalments for ongoing works. These projects cover areas including tribal livelihoods, eco-tourism, medicinal plants, cultural infrastructure and waste management.

The pattern shows that NEC projects continue to address a wide range of regional development needs. In addition, several allocations target facilities and activities intended to strengthen local skills, tourism and community-based economic opportunities.

NEC projects also benefit regional institutions

The NEC released Rs 7.42 crore to regional institutions and agencies during September. The North Eastern Council Bamboo Development Centre received Rs 2.88 crore for bamboo artisan clusters.

Furthermore, the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation received Rs 2.35 crore for handloom skill development. Another Rs 1.24 crore went to the North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach for STEM laboratories in remote schools.

The remaining funds went to institutions including NEDFi, NIT Meghalaya, IIM Shillong, NEHU and NESAC. These allocations complement NEC projects by supporting skills, technology, education and institutional capacity across the region.

NEC projects underline continued regional development

The September figures highlight both completed infrastructure and continuing investment across the Northeast. The 14 completed works carried a combined value of Rs 45.48 crore, while the council separately released Rs 42.63 crore during the same month for development activities.

Overall, NEC projects completed in September covered practical needs ranging from school buildings and cultural facilities to tourism and community infrastructure. At the same time, fresh funding for states and regional institutions indicates that the council’s development programme remains active across multiple sectors.

The latest project closures therefore add to the broader portfolio of NEC-supported works across the Northeast. Official project data from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region also tracks completed and ongoing projects under NEC.
