Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday clarified that no Pakistani nationals are residing in the state, following recent queries and speculations regarding the presence of illegal foreign immigrants. Addressing the media and state officials during a review meeting on internal security and law enforcement, the CM stated that although a few foreign nationals from other countries had been staying in Tripura temporarily, they have since left after fulfilling immigration requirements or being deported.
The statement comes in the backdrop of heightened concerns across several northeastern states about illegal immigration, border surveillance, and the presence of foreign nationals near international boundaries. Tripura, which shares a long border with Bangladesh, often finds itself at the center of debates around cross-border infiltration and illegal stays.
“No Pakistani Nationals in Tripura”
“We have verified the data and I can confidently say there are no Pakistani nationals residing in Tripura. Some foreign citizens from other countries were earlier in the state, but they have all departed after the due legal process,” said Dr. Manik Saha.
He emphasized that the government is keeping a close eye on border activities in collaboration with central agencies and border security forces. “Tripura is a peaceful state, and we are committed to maintaining internal security and upholding the law. There is no room for illegal activity, especially where national security is concerned,” he added.

Foreign Nationals from Other Countries Have Departed
According to information shared during the briefing, foreigners from countries like Nigeria, Bangladesh, and Myanmar had previously entered Tripura for educational, religious, or business reasons. However, state authorities in coordination with the Foreigners’ Regional Registration Office (FRRO) and immigration departments have ensured that those individuals either left voluntarily or were sent back after overstaying their visas.
“No one is above the law, and all foreigners in Tripura are monitored through proper legal and documentation channels,” said a senior Tripura Police official.
Strengthened Border Surveillance
Tripura shares an 856-kilometer international boundary with Bangladesh. In recent months, surveillance measures have been strengthened through increased fencing, night patrolling, and deployment of drone monitoring systems. The Border Security Force (BSF) and state police continue to operate in coordination to prevent unauthorized border crossings.
The CM also praised the security forces for maintaining vigilance and preventing any unauthorized entry into the state. “We have been proactive in keeping our borders secure. Our forces are doing commendable work in ensuring that no foreign national enters or stays in Tripura without valid documents,” Dr. Saha stated.
