In a landmark address at a mass public rally in Guwahati on February 4, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the remarkable strides towards peace and development in the Northeastern region. Emphasizing the removal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from several districts, PM Modi declared a new era of tranquility and growth in the region.
PM Modi lauded the positive impact of AFSPA’s withdrawal, citing more than 7,000 youths from Assam who have chosen to renounce violence and embrace a commitment to contribute to the nation’s progress. The move signifies a significant shift in the region’s dynamics, with areas once marred by widespread violence now fostering dreams and hope among its residents.
Addressing the gathering at the Veterinary field in Khanapara, Guwahati, PM Modi stressed the government’s unwavering support for the aspirations of the people in the Northeast. He highlighted the importance of setting ambitious targets for the country’s progress, distinguishing the present government’s approach from previous administrations that struggled to fulfill promises.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in his opening speech, praised PM Modi for his pivotal role in fostering growth and peace in the state. Crediting Modi for bringing about a transformative change, Sarma commended the Prime Minister for steering thousands of youths away from extremism, facilitating their reintegration into mainstream society.
One notable achievement highlighted during the event was the construction of nine bridges over the Brahmaputra River under Modi’s leadership. These infrastructure projects signify a commitment to improving connectivity in the region, creating job opportunities for locals, and fostering increased sports participation.
On a significant note, PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for projects worth Rs 11,600 crore in Guwahati, further underlining the government’s dedication to propelling Assam’s development.
