In the last few days, normal life has been thrown out of gear in Assam and adjoining Arunachal Pradesh due to rain. The water level of many rivers is rising. The maximum impact is being seen in 46 villages of Dhemaji, Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur districts of Assam. The Meteorological Department has forecast rain for the next two days, which may worsen the situation.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) in its bulletin said that the districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur and Dibrugarh are affected due to rain in the state since Monday. A total of 33,836 people are currently affected by the disaster in 46 villages of these three districts.
According to ASDMA, the water level of Brahmaputra river is flowing above the danger mark at Nematighat in Jorhat. A total of 15,084 people have been affected in Dhemaji district alone, 14,895 in Lakhimpur and 3,857 in Dibrugarh district. The report said 22 villages in Dhemaji district, 23 in Lakhimpur district and one village in Dibrugarh district were affected by the floods. Due to this people have been forced to go to safer places. Earlier in the month of July, the devastating flood situation in Assam had turned dire.
