Rangacherra village, located in the Mohanpur subdivision of Tripura, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first green village in the state. This achievement is the result of a visionary pilot project spearheaded by the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) in collaboration with the state government.
As reported by Akashvani, the transformation of Rangacherra into a green village highlights the state’s commitment to uplifting rural communities through sustainable development. The project, worth ₹1.25 crore, included the installation of a solar power plant, solar-powered water purification systems, and solar home lighting solutions.
The village, home to families who migrated from Jharkhand and Bihar, now enjoys safe drinking water and uninterrupted access to clean energy. Previously, residents struggled with iron-contaminated water that often posed health risks. With the solar water purification plant now operational, this problem has been effectively resolved.
The solar power plant is connected to the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) grid, allowing any excess power to be fed back into the state’s energy network. This not only ensures a steady supply of electricity to the village but also promotes energy efficiency.
Over 70 solar-powered street lights have been installed, making the village safer and more accessible after dark. Additionally, the solar home lighting system has been a boon for students, enabling them to study during the evening without disruptions.
This green village initiative sets a benchmark for sustainable rural development in India. TREDA’s successful implementation showcases how renewable energy and clean water access can transform lives in remote areas.
