Assam, Rs 3 lakh was stolen in broad daylight outside the Dhubri Bar Association office on Monday. The theft occurred in a busy area, highlighting the increasing need for vigilance and better security measures in public spaces.
The incident took place around noon when a local businessman, identified as Ashok Kumar, was approached by an unknown individual. Kumar had just withdrawn the large sum of money from a nearby bank and was heading towards his car when the thief snatched the cash and fled the scene. Witnesses reported seeing a man in a black jacket and jeans, who quickly disappeared into the crowded streets, making it difficult for authorities to track him.
Police Launch Immediate Investigation
The Dhubri police were quick to respond to the incident. Local officers arrived at the scene within minutes, conducting a preliminary investigation and collecting evidence from witnesses. Surveillance footage from nearby cameras has been retrieved, which police believe may provide crucial leads in identifying the suspect.
According to Dhubri Police Inspector, Nabin Chandra Boro, “We are currently reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses. We will take every necessary step to track down the perpetrator. This type of crime in broad daylight is unacceptable, and we are committed to ensuring that such incidents do not happen again.”
The police have also been engaging with local communities and business owners to enhance security measures. “Public vigilance is crucial to preventing further crimes. We urge the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity immediately,” added Inspector Boro.
Public Reacts to Growing Crime in Dhubri
The daylight theft has sparked outrage among local residents and business owners in Dhubri. Many are expressing concerns over the rising number of thefts in the area. Several locals voiced their frustration over the lack of effective security measures around the Dhubri Bar Association office and other busy locations.
“I was shocked when I heard about the theft. Dhubri has always been considered a relatively safe place, but this incident has left us worried. The police should increase patrolling in the area to ensure that people feel safe,” said Rani Devi, a local shopkeeper.
Rising Concern Over Crime in Assam
Dhubri, like many parts of Assam, has experienced a growing number of thefts and petty crimes in recent months. As the state grapples with rising crime rates, especially in urban areas, this daylight robbery serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by law enforcement in keeping public spaces secure.
Local politicians have also weighed in on the incident, calling for stronger law enforcement and better policing in vulnerable areas. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently emphasized the need for enhanced security measures across the state to combat rising crimes. The incident outside the Dhubri Bar Association office has put further pressure on authorities to address these concerns promptly.
Heightened Security Measures Sought
Following the theft, business owners in the vicinity have called for increased security measures. Many are requesting the installation of more surveillance cameras in the area and the presence of uniformed police officers during peak hours.
“We need to feel safe while going about our daily business. I hope the authorities take swift action to prevent further incidents,” said Abdul Rashid, a local trader.
In response, the Dhubri police have pledged to step up efforts to combat such crimes, particularly in high-traffic areas like the vicinity of the Bar Association. A meeting with local business owners and residents will be held to discuss the implementation of more security measures, including the installation of additional CCTV cameras and the deployment of more police personnel.
