Early Life and Family Background

Shubham Jain, a businessman from Una in Himachal Pradesh, is part of a new set of founders working to build brands from smaller towns in India. Born on October 1, 1994, into a Jain family, he grew up in a joint household with his parents, grandparents, and younger brother.

From an early age, Shubham was close to business activity at home. His family was involved in paint distribution, and daily operations were visible to him during his school years. This exposure shaped his thinking about trade, customers, and supply.

He studied in a convent school and completed his schooling in Una. Alongside studies, he began spending time understanding how the family business worked.

Early Interest in Business

Shubham showed interest in business from a young age. By the time he was in eighth grade, he had started learning basic aspects of operations. This included observing how orders were managed and how relationships with dealers were maintained.

During his higher secondary years, he became more active. He learned how to communicate with clients and handle small responsibilities. These early experiences gave him practical skills that later helped him in decision-making.

After school, Shubham enrolled in a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program. However, he chose to leave college after a year to take on full-time responsibility in the family business and gain hands-on experience.

Years in the Paint Industry

For several years, Shubham worked in the family’s paint distribution business. This phase helped him understand the ground realities of trade in smaller markets. He dealt with suppliers, handled customer expectations, and worked on maintaining steady operations.

Around seven years into this journey, his younger brother joined the business. With both brothers involved, the family business became more structured and stable.

During this time, Shubham recalls a key lesson from his father. He was told that building a business is difficult, but maintaining and growing it requires even more effort. This idea stayed with him and influenced his next steps.

Shift Towards a New Industry

As market trends changed, Shubham began exploring new sectors. He observed growing demand for modular kitchens, wardrobes, and architectural hardware. While such products were common in metro cities, availability in smaller towns remained limited.

This gap led him to consider entering a new segment. Around 2020, he decided to move into modular hardware, despite having no direct background in the field.

Initial Struggles and Learning Phase

Starting in a new industry came with challenges. Shubham began with direct sales, visiting customers and dealers himself. He tried to build a network but faced slow growth in the beginning.

For over a year, volumes remained low. Without brand recognition or established distribution, scaling was difficult. This period, however, helped him understand the product category and customer behavior in detail.

Turning Point with a Display Centre

To address slow growth, Shubham changed his approach. He opened a display centre in his city to showcase modular hardware products. These were items usually found only in larger cities.

The idea was simple. If customers could see and experience the products, they would be more confident in buying them. The display centre also helped local dealers understand the category better.

The response was encouraging. Customers appreciated access to modern designs locally. Shubham also started working on product variations, adapting designs to suit regional preferences.

Creation of Bootstrapped Brand Wudware

In late 2022, Shubham launched his brand Wudware as a bootstrapped venture, built without external funding. The focus was on offering a wide range of hardware and interior products at prices that remain accessible.

The brand includes products such as modular kitchen fittings, wardrobes, handles, profiles, door hardware, decorative sheets, plywood, and boards. Shubham’s idea is to provide multiple interior solutions under one brand so that customers do not need to depend on several suppliers.

Thought Process on Wealth and Growth

Shubham often speaks about his approach to success and wealth. He believes that comparing oneself with others slows down progress. In his view, discipline, hard work, and continuous learning play a larger role than luck.

Referring to business figures like Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani, he says their growth is not based on chance but on consistent effort and the ability to convert growth into profit.

He aims to build a similar identity in his own sector. Shubham has stated that he wants to be known across India as a leading name in hardware, with a strong market presence. He has also expressed a personal goal to be recognized as “the hardware king” from India in his field.

He explains his approach in simple terms. Growth should lead to profit, and strong thinking leads to money. For him, business is about turning effort into clear financial outcomes.

Expansion Efforts and Team Building

After launching Wudware, Shubham began focusing on expansion. He started building a team for sales, production, and packaging. He also invested in marketing to increase brand awareness beyond Himachal Pradesh.

In 2023, the company entered the distribution phase. This allowed Wudware to reach markets outside its home state. Shubham used his past experience in distribution to structure this expansion.

Meanwhile, his brother continued handling the family’s paint business along with their father, allowing Shubham to focus on the new venture.

Vision for the Future

Shubham’s long-term goal is to take Wudware to a national level. He wants the brand to reach both large cities and smaller towns, where access to modular products is still limited.

He also sees business growth as a way to create employment. As the company expands, he expects it to generate jobs across different functions.

Shubham’s ambition is clear. He wants to build one of the top businesses in his category and create a strong presence across India. His journey reflects a shift from a traditional family business to a new-age product-driven approach, led by a founder focused on discipline, learning, and steady growth.
