Major Development Push in Sikkim

Narendra Modi launched multiple development projects in Sikkim worth nearly ₹4,000 crore. Addressing a gathering at Paljor Stadium, he described the Northeast as “Ashtalakshmi,” highlighting its importance to India’s growth.

Moreover, he stated that the government has shifted from an “Act East” to an “Act Fast” approach. This shift aims to accelerate progress across sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, and education.

A key highlight of the announcement is the Sevok–Rangpo railway line. Once completed, it will provide Sikkim with its first rail connectivity.

The Prime Minister also emphasized Sikkim’s rich biodiversity. He noted that the state is home to over 500 bird species and 700 butterfly species.

To support tourism, the government plans to develop 1,000 homestays across the state. As a result, local communities will gain employment opportunities while visitors enjoy better accommodation facilities.

Healthcare and Youth Development

Furthermore, Modi announced new healthcare initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and services. These programmes seek to address long-standing gaps in the sector.

He also praised the youth of Sikkim for their achievements in sports. Additionally, he reaffirmed support through initiatives like Khelo India to nurture talent.

Arunachal Pradesh Pushes Strategic Infrastructure

Meanwhile, Pema Khandu met Rajnath Singh in New Delhi. During the meeting, he stressed the importance of improving infrastructure in border districts.

He explained that better connectivity strengthens national security while supporting economic growth. Therefore, he urged the Centre to maintain sustained support.

Priority Corridor Project Highlighted

Khandu identified the Akajan–Likabali–Bame corridor as a priority project. This corridor will connect Assam plains with remote districts like Upper Subansiri and Shi-Yomi.

Additionally, the project includes a bridge over the Taro Tamak River. The Border Roads Organisation is executing major portions of the project.
