Successful Cochlear Implant Surgery at GBP Hospital

Nose, Ear and Throat specialist doctors at Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital have once again successfully completed cochlear implant surgery through highly complex and delicate surgery. A child named Pratiksha Sarkar from Bazar area of Agartala camp was born mute and deaf. Nose, Ear and Throat specialist doctors of AGMC and GBP Hospital, Agartala, took the decision to perform the operation after the peripheral examination of the child on April 1.

In this surgery, doctors implant highly sophisticated electronic devices inside the skull very close to the brain. Agartala Government Medical College & GBP Hospital provides this implant free of cost by ADIP of Government of India. The cost of this implant is around 6 lakh rupees.

Mentor surgeons in the surgical team were Nose, Ear and Throat Surgeon Professor Dr. Amitabh Roy Chowdhury and Head of the Department of Nose, Ear and Throat Professor Dr. Biplab Nath. Anesthesiologist was Dr. Anupam Chakraborty. Other health workers including OT staff nurses also participate in the surgery. The child is currently healthy and normal after surgery. Cochlear Implant Clinic is available every Friday in ENT Outpatient Department at AGMC & GBP Hospital. The concerned have been requested to avail this facility The director of the health department informed this news in a press release.
