Trinamool Congress (TMC) state vice-president and Lower Assam in-charge Dulu Ahmed targeted Assam Minister and Bajali MLA Ranjeet Kumar Dass during an election campaign held at Chenglimari in Dhumarpothar, Bhawanipur, on May 3. Ahmed, who has been a vocal critic of the current state government, didn’t hold back in his criticism, calling Dass the “most unsuccessful minister” in the cabinet.
The remarks came amid the ongoing election season in Assam, where both national and regional political parties are vying for dominance. Ahmed’s statements against Dass are expected to intensify the political rhetoric, with TMC continuing its aggressive campaign to gain a foothold in the state.
Dulu Ahmed expressed his disappointment with the performance of the Assam government, specifically focusing on Dass’s tenure as a minister. He accused Dass of failing to deliver on the promises made to the people of Assam, particularly those in the Bajali constituency, which Dass represents. According to Ahmed, the lack of development in the region has left the people disillusioned and frustrated.
“Ranjeet Dass has been in power for years, but the ground reality is far from the promises he made. The people of Bajali and Assam as a whole have not seen the progress they were promised. It’s time for a change, and the people are looking for a government that is accountable to them,” said Ahmed during his speech.
The TMC leader did not limit his criticism to Dass alone but also targeted the overall governance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam. He claimed that the state government had consistently failed to address key issues such as infrastructure, employment, and healthcare. According to Ahmed, the state’s development has stagnated under the BJP-led administration, and the people are increasingly disillusioned with their leadership.
While Dulu Ahmed’s remarks were pointed and bold, they come at a time when the political climate in Assam is heating up. Both the TMC and BJP are working to solidify their positions, with the latter being in power in the state for the past few years.
