Senior BJP tribal leader and two-time MLA Rampada Jamatia secured unanimous support as the new Speaker during the Assembly session.

Earlier, Ram Prasad Paul had been officiating as Speaker. However, he clearly requested party leadership not to consider his name, which opened the way for a consensus candidate.

Proposal Gains Cross-Party Support

Chief Minister Manik Saha, along with Animesh Debbarma and Shukla Charan Noatia, formally proposed Jamatia’s name.

Moreover, Opposition Leader Jiten Chowdhury strongly supported the proposal. Meanwhile, the Congress Legislature Party chose not to field any alternative candidate, which further strengthened the consensus.
