Like every year, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), an alliance partner of the ruling BJP, is set to observe Statehood Demand Day across the state.
Addressing the media, the Bishramganj unit of IPFT announced that a bike rally will be organized to mark the occasion. Party leaders said the event is part of their ongoing movement demanding a separate state for the indigenous people of Tripura.
“In 1984, on this very day, the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) was formed. Since then, we have been observing August 23 as Tipraland Demand Day,” an IPFT leader told reporters.
The party has also appealed to supporters and the general public to actively participate in the rally to strengthen the statehood movement.
IPFT leaders emphasized that the demand for statehood remains a core political agenda for the party, even while being an ally of the BJP in Tripura. They believe such programs are vital to keeping the movement alive and reminding the government of the aspirations of the indigenous people.
With the rally scheduled across tribal-dominated areas, the day is expected to witness mass participation from IPFT workers and supporters.
