Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has urged government officials and local authorities to take swift and coordinated action to resolve the ongoing drinking water crisis affecting several regions in the state. Chairing an emergency meeting, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of ensuring clean and safe drinking water, especially during the peak summer months when the demand is high and supply systems are under pressure.
Reports from various districts such as Dhalai, Gomati, Sepahijala, and South Tripura have highlighted growing concerns about both water scarcity and contamination. Many families in rural and tribal areas have been forced to rely on unsafe water sources like ponds, streams, or untreated wells for daily consumption, increasing the risk of waterborne diseases.
Addressing the crisis, Dr. Saha instructed officials from the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department and district administrations to mobilize all available resources to restore clean water access. He emphasized that the health and safety of citizens should be the topmost priority and that negligence in this matter would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

To provide immediate relief, the state government has begun deploying water tankers to the most severely affected areas. In addition, damaged pipelines and storage tanks are being repaired on a war footing. Temporary water filtration units and mobile purification systems are also being set up to ensure safe water delivery in emergency zones.
The Chief Minister also directed that tube wells and hand pumps be installed in rural villages that lack piped water systems. He called for real-time monitoring of water quality through regular testing and stressed the need for preventive measures to avoid outbreaks of diseases caused by contaminated water.
Special attention is being given to tribal and remote villages, where access to public utilities remains a challenge due to poor connectivity and limited infrastructure. Dedicated teams from the PHE Department have been dispatched to these regions to coordinate local efforts and oversee the installation of emergency water systems.
The state government has asked each district magistrate to submit daily progress reports and ensure public complaints are addressed within 24 hours. Community awareness drives are also being launched to educate residents on the importance of boiling or purifying water before consumption.
Dr. Saha reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building long-term resilience in the state’s water supply infrastructure. He said that permanent solutions such as the expansion of rural piped water networks, rejuvenation of dried-up water bodies, and investment in advanced filtration systems would be rolled out as part of the state’s clean water initiative.
The Chief Minister also hinted at possible collaborations with central government schemes such as the Jal Jeevan Mission to accelerate infrastructure development and ensure that every household in Tripura gets access to potable water throughout the year.
The situation remains critical in several pockets of the state, but the government’s swift response has already started to ease the crisis in some areas. Continued efforts and timely execution of the action plan are expected to stabilize the situation over the coming weeks.
As Tripura deals with rising temperatures and seasonal water shortages, the Chief Minister’s proactive leadership has reassured citizens that the government is committed to safeguarding public health and delivering clean water to all, especially those in need.
