Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has announced a major protest rally in Agartala on August 30, raising the slogan “Vote Chor Gaddi Chhod” (Vote Thieves, Step Down). The rally aims to highlight what the Congress terms as the failures of the BJP-led government in Tripura, particularly in governance, unemployment, law and order, and corruption.

According to TPCC spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty, the rally will commence from the Agartala Press Club and conclude at the State Secretariat. Senior Congress leaders are expected to participate, making it one of the party’s significant statewide campaigns ahead of upcoming political challenges.

Congress Slams BJP Over Law and Order, Drugs, and Unemployment

Chakraborty alleged that despite the BJP’s promise of a “drug-free state”, drug trafficking and heroin smuggling have spread rapidly across Tripura. He claimed that the state has become a hub for narcotics trade, putting the youth at greater risk.

On the issue of unemployment, the TPCC spokesperson accused the government of failing to create job opportunities. He stated that thousands of government posts remain vacant, leaving educated youth frustrated and uncertain about their future.

The Congress also raised concerns over rising crime, corruption, and political violence. Citing a recent incident in Bishalgarh, Chakraborty said that citizens are living in constant fear while law enforcement agencies allegedly turn a blind eye to such issues.

Rally to Send a “Strong Message”

The party has made it clear that the August 30 rally is not just a symbolic protest but a statewide campaign to expose the BJP government’s shortcomings. By mobilizing citizens and supporters, the Congress hopes to send a strong political message ahead of crucial electoral battles.

Chakraborty emphasized that the rally would showcase the growing public anger against the ruling party. “People of Tripura are tired of false promises and deteriorating law and order. This rally will amplify their voice,” he said.

Political Significance

The protest is seen as part of the Congress’s renewed efforts to rebuild its base in Tripura and challenge the ruling BJP on key issues. With unemployment, drug menace, and political unrest being major concerns in the state, the TPCC is attempting to connect with voters by positioning itself as the voice of accountability and change.

Observers believe that the rally could set the tone for a heated political season in Tripura, with opposition parties increasingly targeting the BJP’s governance track record.
