Widespread public anger has swept across Tripura following the tragic death of a 23-year-old delivery boy, allegedly driven to suicide after being publicly assaulted and humiliated at his workplace. Although the incident occurred several days ago, police have yet to make any arrests, triggering protests and raising serious questions about the state’s law enforcement response.
Allegations of Public Assault and Humiliation
The deceased, Prasenjit Sarkar (23), hailed from the Kameswar area of Dharmanagar and worked as a delivery boy for a private courier company, Blue Dart. According to family members and local residents, Prasenjit faced a public assault over a delivery-related issue. The accused, identified as Sangita Bhattacharjee, is reportedly a schoolteacher.
Witnesses allege that the assault took place in full public view. Subsequently, a video of the incident went viral on social media. As the footage spread rapidly, Prasenjit allegedly faced intense public scrutiny, humiliation, and psychological distress.

Family Alleges Mental Trauma Led to Suicide
Prasenjit’s family claims that the public humiliation deeply affected his mental health and shattered his self-respect. They allege that he struggled to cope with the emotional trauma caused by the incident and the circulation of the video online. Eventually, the young man allegedly took his own life, leaving behind his grieving mother and family.
Locals describe Prasenjit as a hardworking youth who supported his family through his modest earnings. His sudden death has shocked the community and intensified calls for justice.
Protests Intensify Across the State
Following the incident, mass protests erupted in Dharmanagar and gradually spread to other parts of Tripura. Demonstrators, including youth groups and civil society organizations, have demanded the immediate arrest of all accused persons and strict punishment under the law.
Protesters warned that if authorities fail to act swiftly, the agitation could escalate into a statewide movement. Many argue that any delay in justice only deepens public mistrust in the system.
Police Inaction Draws Sharp Criticism
Even after four days, police have not arrested the main accused. This delay has drawn widespread criticism from citizens, activists, and social organizations. Many have questioned why law enforcement agencies have not taken decisive action despite the incident being captured on video and widely circulated.
Some protesters also accused sections of the media of remaining silent or diverting attention from the core issue, instead of questioning the apparent lack of urgency shown by the authorities.
School Removes Accused Teacher From Duties
Meanwhile, the private school where the accused woman works has removed her from teaching duties. The institution clarified that it was not legally obligated to take this step but did so on humanitarian and ethical grounds.
However, protesters argue that such administrative action cannot replace criminal accountability. They stress that only legal action and arrests can deliver justice to the victim and his family.
Chief Minister’s Assurance Fails to Calm Anger
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha addressed the issue through a social media post, assuring the public that justice would not be delayed. Despite this assurance, public anger has not subsided. Many citizens point out that statements alone carry little weight when no concrete action follows on the ground.
The dominant question across Tripura remains unanswered: why has the accused not been brought under the ambit of law even after several days?
Concerns Over Rule of Law
As protests continue, many are questioning whether political influence or patronage is shielding the accused. Activists warn that selective application of the law could deal a serious blow to public faith in the justice system.
For now, Tripura watches closely as pressure mounts on the administration. The message from the streets is clear and unwavering—there must be immediate arrests, a fair and transparent investigation, and justice for Prasenjit Sarkar without fear or favour.
