The Tripura Apex Fisheries Cooperative Society Ltd, a government-run entity, declared on Friday that it plans to sell 5,000 kg of Hilsa fish, imported from Bangladesh, at affordable prices to celebrate the first day of the Bengali New Year, also known as ‘Polia Boishakh.’ The fish will be sold at three counters located at Maharajganj market in Agartala.

On the inauguration day, the state fisheries minister, Sudhanshu Das, opened one of the three outlets at the market. The move aims to benefit Bengali residents in the state who consider Hilsa as a delicacy and prefer it during festivities.

The sale of Hilsa at reasonable prices will provide a significant respite to the residents of Tripura who have been facing difficulties due to the skyrocketing prices of the fish in the state. The initiative will not only make the fish available to consumers at affordable rates but will also boost the market for Hilsa fish in Tripura.
