Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu recently highlighted the importance of citizen engagement in tackling pressing societal issues during a consumer protection and road safety awareness event. Addressing a large gathering in Agartala on January 28, 2025, he emphasized that consumer protection, road safety, and the fight against drug abuse require the active participation of citizens to bring about meaningful change.

Governor Nallu began by addressing consumer rights, stressing the need for people to be informed about their entitlements and responsibilities. He urged citizens to actively support local producers and manufacturers, which he believes strengthens the state’s economy. “When consumers prioritize locally-made products, they not only boost regional industries but also contribute to the larger vision of an economically self-reliant Tripura,” he stated. The Governor acknowledged the significant role of digital marketplaces but reminded attendees to remain cautious and vigilant about the authenticity of goods and services purchased online. He encouraged the youth, in particular, to educate themselves about consumer rights and become informed buyers.

On the issue of road safety, the Governor emphasized the alarming rise in traffic accidents in Tripura and across India. He appealed to citizens to strictly adhere to traffic rules, emphasizing that safety begins with individual responsibility. “Wearing helmets, seat belts, and refraining from using mobile phones while driving are small actions, but they can make a significant difference in saving lives,” he said. Governor Nallu also urged the state authorities to intensify efforts to maintain road infrastructure and implement stricter penalties for traffic violations. He highlighted the importance of road safety education in schools and called for widespread awareness campaigns to instill responsible behavior among young people.

A significant part of the Governor’s address focused on the menace of drug abuse, which he described as a growing challenge for Tripura’s society. He commended the state’s law enforcement agencies for their efforts in curbing drug trafficking but stressed that community participation is essential to eliminate the problem entirely. “Parents, teachers, and community leaders must work together to guide young people and create a supportive environment that discourages drug use,” the Governor asserted. He also spoke about the necessity of rehabilitation programs for those affected by addiction, underscoring the importance of reintegrating them into society with dignity and support.

The Governor’s speech resonated with the audience, many of whom appreciated his call for collective responsibility. Various stakeholders, including members of civil society, students, and government officials, attended the event. Several local organizations pledged to increase their efforts in spreading awareness about consumer rights and road safety. Some groups announced plans to collaborate with schools and colleges to organize workshops and activities focused on these issues.

Governor Nallu lauded Tripura’s rich cultural heritage and the role it plays in fostering community spirit. He expressed optimism that the state’s citizens, known for their resilience and unity, would rise to the challenge and actively contribute to addressing these societal concerns. “Tripura has always been a land of community-driven solutions. I am confident that together we can create a safer, more aware, and prosperous state,” he concluded.

The event also featured an exhibition of locally-made products, with artisans and small business owners showcasing their goods. The Governor visited several stalls and interacted with the entrepreneurs, encouraging them to maintain high standards of quality and expand their reach beyond the state. Many participants found the exhibition inspiring, seeing it as a testament to the potential of local industries.

The day ended with a cultural program that celebrated Tripura’s traditions, further emphasizing the need for a united front in addressing the issues discussed. The Governor’s speech served as a rallying cry for citizens to actively engage in improving their society, with the event leaving a lasting impact on attendees.
