Tripura Expands Electricity Infrastructure
The two new sub-stations mark an important step towards better power services in South Tripura. They will strengthen the existing electricity network and improve connections with nearby facilities.
As a result, the upgraded network should help utilities manage local electricity demand more effectively. It will also support households, businesses and public institutions that depend on reliable power.
The Power Grid Corporation of India Limited carried out both projects with support from the Centre and the World Bank.
Sabroom Sub-Station Gets ₹66.19 Crore Investment
The Sabroom sub-station cost an estimated ₹66.19 crore. Construction began in March 2021.
The facility includes a two-storey control room and a 132 kV double-circuit transmission line between Belonia and Sabroom. It also has two 132/33 kV transformers, each rated at 31.5 MVA.
In addition, the sub-station contains two 33/11 kV transformers with a capacity of 10 MVA each. These components will help strengthen power transmission and distribution in the area.
The new transmission infrastructure connects Sabroom with the Belonia and Satchand sub-stations. According to the project details, the facility will benefit 21,398 consumers.
These beneficiaries include residents of Sabroom, Vaishnabpur, Manughat, Harina, Bankul, Ludhua and Rupaichhari. The Integrated Check Post and nearby localities will also benefit.

Satchand Sub-Station Strengthens Power Connectivity
The Satchand sub-station received an estimated investment of ₹47.83 crore. Construction started in January 2021.
Like the Sabroom facility, Satchand has a two-storey control room and four transformers. Two 132/33 kV transformers each provide 31.5 MVA capacity. Meanwhile, two 33/11 kV transformers each provide 10 MVA.
A new 132 kV transmission line links Satchand with Bagafa. Together with the connections to Bagafa and Sabroom, this infrastructure will strengthen the local power network.
The project is expected to benefit 16,150 consumers. These include residents of Satchand, Manubazar, Shakbari, Magurchhara, Kalachhara, Bhurakhali, Sindukpathar, Rajivnagar and Srinagar, along with surrounding areas.
Better Power Supply for South Tripura
Both sub-stations will increase the capacity of the local electricity network. Consequently, utilities will have stronger infrastructure to manage demand and improve supply reliability.
Reliable electricity also supports commercial activity, public services and household needs. Therefore, the projects could contribute to local economic growth and improve daily life for residents.
However, actual improvements in supply will depend on network operations and local distribution conditions.

Importance for Tripura and Northeast India
Reliable electricity supports economic development across Tripura and the wider Northeast. Stronger power networks can help businesses grow, improve public services and support future investment.
By improving transmission connectivity in South Tripura, the Sabroom and Satchand sub-stations aim to strengthen the region’s electricity infrastructure and meet future demand.
