In response to the looming decline in gas-based power generation anticipated after 2030, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Power Minister Shri Ratanlal Nath have called for prompt measures to explore alternative energy sources.

Chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, a comprehensive review meeting of the Power Department was convened, featuring the presence of Power Minister Shri Ratanlal Nath, Chief Secretary JK Sinha, and other key officials. During the session, Dr. Saha emphasized the need to enhance and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply across every corner of the state.

The Power Minister, citing insights from energy experts, conveyed that the gas-based thermal power stations in Tripura might experience a precarious decline beyond 2030. Acknowledging this potential challenge, both the Chief Minister and the Power Minister urged electricity experts to proactively brainstorm and strategize alternative electricity generation and distribution methods.

The gathering also witnessed presentations by electricity corporations and the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) on the existing electricity infrastructure and the potential of solar energy integration. The evaluations encompassed the performance of private franchisees, Sai Computer and FIDCO, entrusted with emergency electricity supply and consumer services, which reportedly garnered mixed reviews.

Particularly, concerns were raised about Sai Computer’s service quality in Kailashahar, prompting Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to call for an immediate enhancement of electricity services. Further directives were issued to accelerate the exploration of alternative power sources, including solar systems, by TREDA officials.

As Tripura navigates the impending shift in its energy landscape, officials are poised to collaborate and innovate to secure a reliable and sustainable energy future for the state.
