Tripura Leader of the Opposition and CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Jitendra Choudhury launched sharp criticism against both the BJP-led central government and regional party Tipra Motha, accusing them of ignoring the real struggles of the people.

The rally, organized by the CPI(M) Sonamura Sub-Divisional Committee, was aimed at mobilizing public support for the upcoming nationwide general strike on July 9, which is part of a larger campaign against rising inflation, unemployment, and alleged anti-people policies.

Ahead of the rally, a large procession of CPI(M) workers and supporters marched through Sonamura town, drawing significant public attention. The rally concluded at Rabindra Chowmuhani, where party leaders addressed the gathering.

Choudhury’s speech focused on the disconnect between the government’s global image and the local reality. “While Prime Minister Modi speaks of India’s growth on foreign tours, back home, unemployment and inflation are crushing the common man. Farmers, workers, and daily wage earners are being pushed to the edge,” he said.

He also slammed the concept of ‘Amrit Kaal’, calling it a hollow narrative. “This government is working only for corporates, suppressing protests and exploiting the poor,” Choudhury added.

The Left leader also highlighted the significance of the July 9 Bharat Bandh, describing it as a collective call for change. “This is more than a strike—it’s a warning to those in power that people are watching and will respond,” he said.

In a symbolic political moment during the rally, 19 families comprising 74 voters announced their departure from the BJP and formally joined the CPI(M). Choudhury personally welcomed them by handing over party flags, stating that the growing discontent reflects the people’s desire for an alternative political path.
