In a significant legal development, a man in Tripura has been handed a 10-year rigorous imprisonment sentence for the heinous crime of raping a minor girl in 2019. The verdict and sentence were pronounced by the Bishalgarh Additional District and Sessions Judge Court, located in the Sepahijala district of Tripura.
Conviction and Sentencing
The accused, Khokon Debnath, faced charges related to the rape of a 5-year-old girl in 2019. Following due legal proceedings, the court found Khokon Debnath guilty of the crime and imposed a 10-year rigorous imprisonment sentence as a consequence.
The victim’s family initiated legal action by filing a case against Khokon Debnath at the West Agartala Women Police Station in Tripura on August 2, 2019. The case was subsequently transferred to the jurisdiction of Bishalgarh Police Station.
Prompt action led to the arrest of Khokon Debnath on August 4, 2019, marking the initiation of legal proceedings against the accused.
The distressing incident unfolded on August 1, 2019, when the minor girl visited Khokon Debnath’s residence with the intent to watch television. Tragically, she became the victim of sexual assault during this visit.
