Tripura Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Wednesday strongly criticized the Congress party, accusing it of a legacy steeped in corruption and policy paralysis. Speaking at a press meet in Agartala on June 11, 2025, Nath contrasted the alleged failures of Congress with what he termed as the BJP’s era of “honest governance and inclusive growth.”

He stated, “For decades, Congress ruled this nation but did little beyond filling their own coffers. The poor stayed poor. Farmers remained neglected. Infrastructure barely moved forward.”

According to him, the transformation in governance began when Prime Minister Narendra Modi took charge in 2014. The BJP, Nath claimed, has ushered in transparency, accountability, and a renewed focus on development.

“BJP Governance is Rooted in Performance”

The Minister underlined that Tripura, under BJP rule, has seen visible change. He pointed to the construction of rural roads, expansion of health services, and the digitization of government services as key achievements of the current administration.

“Under the BJP, rural connectivity has improved. Farmers now get direct financial support through schemes like PM-Kisan. The corruption that was rampant during Congress’ rule is no longer tolerated,” Nath added.

He also emphasized that welfare schemes today reach people without the interference of middlemen—something he claimed was never possible during the Congress years.

Central Schemes Drive Progress Under BJP development

Highlighting key national initiatives, Nath credited the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and PM-KISAN for transforming the lives of Tripura’s farmers. He said these schemes have provided timely financial relief and protection against crop loss.

The state government, in coordination with the Centre, is also pushing infrastructure projects under the PM Gati Shakti Yojana to enhance logistics and rural connectivity.

“Today, Tripura is on the path to becoming a logistics hub for the Northeast. None of this would be possible without Modi ji’s vision,” he added.

Congress Accused of Betraying Farmers and Youth

Ratan Lal Nath did not hold back in accusing the Congress of betrayal. He said the party failed to uplift farmers, neglected the unemployed youth, and encouraged systemic corruption.

“During the Congress tenure, loan waivers were used as an election stunt. There was no real policy framework to support long-term agricultural growth,” Nath said.

He also cited examples of unfinished projects, outdated irrigation systems, and red tape that plagued the state before BJP came to power.

A Contrast in Leadership Styles BJP development

Nath praised Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, saying, “He leads with a clear roadmap. Every scheme has a deadline. Every rupee spent is accounted for.”

The Tripura minister also lauded Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for maintaining law and order, boosting education, and promoting investment in the state.

“From health to housing, the state government is delivering. Our people can now dream big,” he said.

A Call for Political Awareness and Action

Ratan Lal Nath urged citizens to be politically aware. He appealed to the people of Tripura to remember the past and not fall for false promises.

“Do not forget how Congress ruled with arrogance and ignored your needs. The BJP listens, delivers, and walks with the people,” he stated.

He also encouraged the youth to verify facts and understand which party truly stands for India’s progress.
