Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday announced that the state government has begun the recruitment process for 432 nursing staff to enhance healthcare services across Tripura. He confirmed that 332 posts will be permanent, while 100 will be filled on a contractual basis.
Dr. Saha emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening public health infrastructure and addressing the shortage of trained medical personnel. “We are taking decisive steps to ensure that hospitals and health centres, especially in remote areas, function efficiently,” he said during a press briefing in Agartala.
The Chief Minister informed that the recruitment will cover government medical colleges, district hospitals, and community health centres. He added that the state health department has streamlined the selection process to ensure transparency and merit-based appointments. “Our recruitment policy follows clear guidelines to avoid any irregularities,” he asserted.
The government has already issued notifications, and eligible candidates have begun submitting applications through the official portal. Officials from the Health Department confirmed that the screening process will prioritise qualifications, practical experience, and performance in written and skill-based tests.
CM Saha also highlighted that Tripura’s growing population and increasing demand for healthcare services make this recruitment timely and crucial. “The COVID-19 pandemic taught us the importance of a well-staffed and responsive healthcare system. These new nurses will boost our readiness for both routine services and emergencies,” he said.
He further noted that the state has invested significantly in upgrading health infrastructure in recent years, including the construction of new health sub-centres, primary health centres, and maternal care units. “Infrastructure alone is not enough. Human resources are the backbone of healthcare delivery,” he added.
Officials said the permanent positions will fall under the Directorate of Health Services, while the 100 contractual staff will work under the National Health Mission (NHM). The state plans to complete the recruitment within the next two months to fill urgent vacancies.
The Chief Minister stated that this initiative is part of the broader goal of making Tripura’s healthcare system self-reliant and capable of handling increasing patient loads. “This is not just a recruitment drive; it is a step towards achieving healthcare equity in our state,” he said.
Dr. Saha also mentioned that the government will continue to expand opportunities for youth in healthcare through training programs and capacity-building workshops. “We want our youth to stay in Tripura and serve the people. That’s why we are investing in both jobs and skill development,” he said.
He appealed to the newly recruited nursing staff to serve with dedication, compassion, and professionalism. “Nurses are the pillars of any hospital. Your work touches lives every day. We count on your commitment,” he told the media.
The government has also started planning further recruitments in the coming months, including positions for lab technicians, paramedics, and administrative staff. The Health Minister will soon announce another set of openings, according to senior officials.
This recruitment drive aligns with Tripura’s long-term vision to improve its health indicators and achieve universal health coverage. Dr. Saha concluded by reiterating his government’s dedication to public welfare. “We are not only filling posts. We are filling gaps in service, in care, and in trust,” he said.
