Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on May 14 announced a major step forward in the state’s power infrastructure development. The government will soon roll out a cutting-edge technology that enables the repair of electric lines without disrupting power supply. The announcement came during a press briefing in Agartala, where Minister Nath emphasized that the new technology would be implemented under the state’s ongoing power sector reforms. According to him, Tripura has long faced issues related to maintenance-induced power outages, especially during critical times. The adoption of this advanced system is expected to significantly minimize such occurrences.
Minister Nath said the technology will allow maintenance teams to work on live lines using specially designed tools and safety gear. By bringing this technology to Tripura, the state government aims to provide residents with uninterrupted electricity even during repair or upgrade works.
He also highlighted the support of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, under whose guidance the power department is undergoing a major transformation. “Our goal is to ensure the people of Tripura have access to a reliable and modern power supply system. With this new initiative, we are aligning ourselves with the vision of a developed Tripura,” Nath said.
The minister further revealed that the department has completed initial surveys and identified key zones where this technology will be introduced first. Areas with high load demand and frequent maintenance needs will be prioritized during the rollout. Technical teams have been trained to handle the equipment safely, and additional workshops are planned to build local expertise.
Apart from enhancing maintenance operations, the initiative is also expected to reduce economic losses suffered by businesses and institutions during outages. Industrial units, hospitals, and educational institutions have welcomed the move, stating that uninterrupted power is critical for their operations. Minister Nath noted that the implementation will be funded through a mix of state budget allocations and central assistance under ongoing power sector schemes.
