The Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) is set to observe International Human Rights Day on December 10 at Pragna Bhaban, Hall No. 1 in Agartala. This year’s theme, “Human Rights: Our Everyday Essentials,” highlights the significance of protecting rights in daily life. The event will run from 11 AM to 1 PM.
Top Dignitaries to Attend the Programme
Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha will inaugurate the programme and attend as the Chief Guest. Along with him, DGP Anurag Dhankar, IPS, will participate as the Guest of Honour. Several prominent personalities will also join the event, including:
- Jharna Debbarma, Chairperson, Tripura Commission for Women
- Shri Sankar Das, TJS Gr-I, Secretary, Law Department
- Saktimoy Chakraborty, Advocate General of Tripura
The event will be presided over by Justice Arindam Lodh, Chairperson of THRC.

Programme Schedule and Key Highlights
The observance will begin with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by a welcome song. After that, invited dignitaries will deliver their speeches. According to the official schedule, the Chief Minister will present the keynote address at 12:00 PM. The programme will conclude with a vote of thanks by Dhan Babu Reang, IAS, Secretary of THRC.
THRC’s Work on Human Rights Cases
According to official data shared by the Tripura Human Rights Commission, the body received 680 complaints between 2016 and November 29, 2025. Of these, the commission has already disposed of 579 cases, while 101 cases are currently pending.
Importantly, THRC has recommended compensation in 62 cases, amounting to ₹97,03,309. These actions reflect the Commission’s efforts to ensure justice and accountability in matters involving human rights violations.
Awareness, Outreach, and Publications
Since its establishment, the Commission has been actively engaged in public outreach. It has organized 22 awareness programmes across various parts of the state, helping communities understand their rights and the mechanisms available for their protection. Additionally, THRC has conducted 12 internship programmes, allowing students and young professionals to learn about human rights laws and practices.
To further support its mission, the Commission has published newsletters, annual reports, and updated versions of the Tripura Human Rights Commission Regulations. It has also made the Universal Declaration of Human Rights available in multiple languages to reach a wider audience.
Aim of the Observance
The celebration of International Human Rights Day in Tripura aims to strengthen public awareness and encourage citizens to recognize the importance of safeguarding human rights in everyday situations. Through participation from government leaders, legal experts, and civil society representatives, the THRC hopes to reinforce the collective responsibility of protecting the dignity and rights of all individuals.
