Violence Reported During Polling
The most serious incident occurred at Warengbari in Gomati district while voting was underway.
Police said a Tipra Motha candidate sustained a gunshot injury after unidentified persons allegedly opened fire. Two other people were also reported injured in the incident and taken to hospital. Police launched an investigation to identify those responsible.
Reports identified the injured candidate as Khachindra Reang, who was contesting from Ward 2 of the Gamaria Village Committee. Police said the candidate’s condition was stable after treatment.

A separate incident took place near the Gamaria school strongroom in Gomati district.
Officials reported that Gomati SP Anirban Das and other police personnel suffered injuries during a clash involving political activists. Security forces were deployed as tensions increased in the area.
Local reports also described further tension around the strongroom, including damage to a police vehicle. However, accounts about the people responsible for the incidents remain disputed.
Jitendra Chaudhury Raises Law-and-Order Concerns
Tripura Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury criticised the BJP and Tipra Motha over the violence reported during the elections.
Chaudhury alleged that law-and-order conditions had deteriorated under the BJP-led government. He also raised concerns about possible political interference in the electoral process.
At the same time, he acknowledged the efforts of the police and civil administration to conduct the elections impartially. He said attacks on election officials should not occur and called for action under the law against anyone attempting to obstruct the electoral process.
Chaudhury also raised questions about allegations concerning BJP supporters near a strongroom. These political allegations have not been independently established.
High Voter Turnout Recorded
Despite the incidents, the elections saw strong voter participation across the tribal areas.
Officials said more than 80% of the approximately 6.65 lakh eligible voters participated. Polling took place after a gap of around 10 years, with large numbers of voters arriving at polling stations from early morning.
The high participation became one of the notable features of the election. However, incidents in Gomati have also renewed attention on security arrangements during the electoral process.
